Climb aboard Jeanie Johnston and learn about the Famine era and life on deck this iconic tallship. Take a guided tour and discover another side to Dublin’s multi-faceted past, the poverty-stricken Irish emigrants and the sailing industry of the 19th century. You’ll be amazed at how this life size replica takes you back in time, as a spitting image of the original that sailed in the mid-1800s.

- On average, the length of a transatlantic voyage was 47 days

- Jeanie Johnston’s maiden voyage was to Quebec with 193 passengers – and not one of them nor the crew lost their lives

- This impressive ship sailed a total of16 voyages to North America, sailing to Baltimore, New York and Quebec

Daily Tours:

Take a 50 minute tour of the Jeanie Johnston and learn all about the poverty-stricken Irish emigrants in the 1850s and their voyages across the Atlantic. Visitors can go below deck and see a replica of the living conditions the passengers and crew would have lived in for the 1.5 month journey overseas. Above deck, you can admire the skill, dexterity and bravery of the sailors who climbed up the tall masts to release the sails and learn about how the wooden ship would have been sailed back when mechanics just didn’t exist!
